Make a royal appointment with an interceptor

Royal Enfield Interceptor

A bike combining retro charm with a BHP-bumped four-stroke parallel twin and a host of tasty trimmings, has found its way to a Waterford showroom.

Paul Browne invites you to make a Royal appointment with one of the more alluring machines to have recently arrived on the secondhand scene.

Something very different has come to the used market in the last few weeks.

Waterford Harley-Davidson have taken in a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.

The bike is the flagship model of a company which manufactures more motorcycles than all the main global brands put together!

The Interceptor is the bike that does it all.

While it has classic good looks and its styling is is pretty much perfect, it’s the simplicity of these bikes that is so appealing.

It’s powered by a parallel twin 4-stroke engine. While these were traditionally air cooled, they now meet all the European standards by complementing the old with an additional, and very well hidden, oil cooler.

Classic looks

Royal Enfield InterceptorThe engine, in turn, sits on a rather large oil sump. This once again lends the bike a classic look.

Fork gators, a bench seat with a low grab bar for pillions, traditional clocks and twin rear shocks which sit above the twin exhaust, all make for a bike that I could sit and admire all day long.

This one has all of this and so very much more.

A custom painted tank gives the Interceptor that ‘well-travelled’ look as does the brushed rear mudguard, the brown grips and the faux carburettor cover.

Additional information

The additions on this bike are impressive.

Among several performance upgrades is a reworked suspension by YSS on both the forks and the rear shock absorber.

Enfield, rather wonderfully’ call indicators ‘trafficators’. These have been replaced with smaller and lighter LED units.

The head lamp is fitted with a stone proof mesh and topped off with a subtle, yet effective, tinted screen.

The ‘fender defender’ on the front mudguard does a well proven job of keeping off the worst that a wet road could throw at the front of the bike.

An S&S exhaust system not only allows that beautiful engine noise out, it also lets a few more BHP than standard to add to the bike’s propulsion.

The whole thing is shod on a set of Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres which sit on a perfect set of spoked wheels.

All of this is topped off with a full set of Givi luggage, all sitting on racks and mounting systems designed and made specifically for the bike. They even have the same locks so the rider only needs the one key.
